Safety information
Toxicity: Low-moderate at traditional doses; concentrated extracts can affect bleeding/blood pressure.
Contraindications: Bleeding disorders, pre-surgery; pregnancy caution; concurrent anticoagulation.
Interactions: Notable — danshen-type Salvia can potentiate warfarin/anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs (documented for S. miltiorrhiza: case reports of raised INR and altered warfarin pharmacokinetics); caution with antihypertensives. Stop well before surgery.
Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Caution.
